“TEACH ‘EM A LESSON THEY’LL NEVER FORGET”
In 2013 the Prison Players will recommence their very popular schools program, established in 2003.
Boggo Road Gaol provides an invaluable lesson about crime and punishment, law and order, and justice in different eras.
Education packages show students what life was like in Boggo Road combining a Historical Tour with Historical Immersion and re-enactments with the Prison Players.
Rather than just experiencing Boggo Road Gaol through guided tours alone, students can choose to actually become part of the daily life in prison, alongside the Prison Players, as they serve time.
Female students get to experience gaol life as either an inmate or wardress at His Majesty’s Prison for Woman Brisbane circa 1909. Dressed in authentic period clothing – issued to prisoners and staff – students will carry out duties and responsibilities, and even learn the skills taught in the past. Female inmates learn to sew on buttons, clean their uniforms, polish their boots, pin their garments, and behave respectably. For some inmates (students) it is a heck
of a shock!
